Description Edinburgh Royal Choral Union: Box 2 of 6 (1933-58)
Collection of ca. 200 programmes, newspaper cuttings, handbills, prospectuses, letters, and some printed music from seasons 76-100 of the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, with every season in a separate envelope within the box. Within each envelope is also a list of all the concerts performed in that particular season (not all of which have programmes), with a record of venue, works performed, conductor, orchestra, and soloists, and indications of first performances in Edinburgh and Scotland.

Highlights of the collection:
4/12/33: With the Scottish Orchestra conducted by John Barbirolli and W. Greenhouse Allt, and soloists Trevor Jones and William Parsons: Usher Hall. Programme contains analytical notes with musical examples.
2/2/39: Conducted by W. Greenhouse Allt with Noël Eadie (soprano), Cecil Lucas (contralto), Frank Titterton (tenor), and Robert Easton (bass): Usher Hall. Includes names of all choristers.
21/5/41: Conducted by W. Greenhouse Allt with Jean Summers (soprano), Catherine Mentiplay (contralto), John Tainsh (tenor), and John Mathewson (bass): St. Giles' Cathedral.
30/10/44: Conducted by W. Greenhouse Allt with the Scottish Orchestra and soloists Gladys Ripley (mezzo-soprano), Heddle Nash (tenor), and John Mathewson (bass): Usher Hall.
27/3/48: Conducted by Herrick Bunney with Ceinwen Rowlands (soprano), Margaret McArthur (mezzo-soprano), Trefor Jones (tenor), and William Parsons (bass): Usher Hall. The front of the programme is signed by 3 of the 4 soloists (many other programmes in the collection are also signed by performers and/or conductors).
2/6/53: Coronation concert conducted by Herrick Bunney with the Scottish National Orchestra, Eric Reid (organ), and Jean Harvey (piano): Usher Hall. With analytical notes.
5/6/57: Edward Elgar Centenary Concert, conducted by Herrick Bunney with the Scottish National Orchestra, and soloists Norma Procter (mezzo-soprano), William Herbert (tenor), and Owen Brannigan (bass): Usher Hall.
